It’s common for families to argue about the responsibilities that come with owning a dog – such as walking, feeding and cleaning.
One man has found himself in a family feud after his wife and kids decided to not consult him before buying a puppy.
The dad has taken to Reddit to rant his frustration about the new house pet – and his fury has been backed by supporters.
Posting under the username sleepybot0524, he said: “I’m so mad that my wife and kids bought a dog.
“It’s already day one and nobody is up to take the puppy out to pee. I dont want to deal with a dog!
“I don’t want to worry about who’s gonna watch the dog when we go out of town, I don’t want to have to leave somewhere early cause we have to let the dog out.
“I especially don’t want to clean up s*** and pee… I just wanna sit on the couch and watch TV.
“I’m so f mad about this dog. I’m actually considering leaving the house for a couple days.”
The post has racked up over 5,800 upvotes and almost 800 comments, with many users understanding his anger.
One person said: “Nobody should feel like they have to have a dog. It’s ok to be mad about it. It’s literally another kid. Should have been communicated.”
Another agreed: “Brother, this is about way more than a dog. You gotta have a long conversation with your wife.
“She needs to take responsibility here. If not… well, it doesn’t bode well for a happy marriage.”
Others were shocked by how much his wife had paid for the golden doodle puppy – £1,200 plus an additional £200 on food and toys.
“Not only did she get one knowing you didn’t want it, but she spent $1500!” a user wrote.
Some people told him to treat the dog as a lesson to his kids and “teach them responsibility”.
Someone explained: “This is the perfect opportunity to show them some life skills that will be useful in all kinds of situations when they’re adults.”
After many people shared their concern about the man’s desire to leave his family, he added an update.
“I’ve calmed down since this morning,” he wrote.
“I wasn’t going to leave my family over this dog, more like get out the house and let them deal with the dog without me.
“I’m not lazy, I just know the major responsibility it takes to raise a dog! It’s a minimum 10 year investment.”
